Three original rare 1923 photographs depicting the Soviet Russian siezure of the American Schooner / trading ship Iskum in Siberian waters. The Iskum, out of Tacoma Washington, had been inolved with trading with Eskimos in the Arctic and Siberia. In 1923 the ship was siezed by Soviet forces while in Siberian waters, the ship later managed to escape. However, she was lost by striking an uncharted rock, Captain George Devinney and his crew escaping in three dories and rowing to Atka Island The photos depict the following: Two Soviet soldiers on deck of the Iskum, an officer or possible Captian Devinney on deck of the Iskum and the Iskum in an ice flow ( possibly stuck in the ice ) The soviet soliders photo 3 7/8 x 2 7/8, the officer / Captain Devinney photo 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches, the Iskum in an ice flow photo 3 3/8 x 2 3/8 inches. Each unmounted. The photos quite rare and depict one of the first confrontations between Soviet Russia and the United States. Possibly the very first nautical confrontation between the two nations.
